Light House: ALZ & Dementia Program

The Lighthouse
We understand it can be a difficult decision to consider moving a loved one into a special care situation.  We strive to make the transition for the family and the resident a stress free and enjoyable experience.  The Lighthouse is a place where our family cares about your family.
At The Lighthouse we offer a secure and comfortable living environment while providing stimulating and enjoyable activities, social events and treatment.  Our goal is to assist each resident to maintain their highest level of function while continuing to find joy in each day.  We encourage each resident to make some decisions for themselves to enhance their sense of control.  We value resident and family involvement and believe that each resident is an individual with individual needs, tastes, habits and desires.  We are committed to maintaining that individuality.

Our Lighthouse staff has received specialized training in dementia and dementia care.  Nursing care is available 24 hours per day.  Our highly trained Physical Therapy staff is available as needed for issues with walking or strength training.  An Occupational Therapist can perform assessments and assist residents with eating, bathing and other activities of daily living.  A licensed Social Worker will assist resident and families with financial and legal issues.
The Lighthouse staff endeavor to meet resident’s individual needs, based on the residents assessments and care plans.

- Activities are designed for success and to promote socialization and enhancement of individual interests.  Gardening, Pet Therapy, crafts, cooking, exercise, music and reminiscing are popular among our residents.
- Nutritious and appetizing meals are planned by a Registered Dietician.
- We recognize that individuals with dementia and dementia related illnesses often have a decreased desire to eat.  Our staff monitors, evaluates and assists to make each meal a positive social experience.
- Snacks and fluids are offered throughout the day and night and are a part of the daily activity calendar.  This gives residents several opportunities each day to actively participate in physical and social activities.  Being in a kitchen or dining area is familiar and comfortable for residents.
- We encourage residents and families to bring in personal belongings to help the resident feel safe, secure and comfortable with their familiar things around them.

Things you may wish to consider including:

- Some living with dementia related illnesses seem to favor glides & rockers

A Family Support Group is hosted and facilitated by The Lighthouse staff and our goal is on a monthly basis..  During this informal time we present guest speakers to share information about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia related illnesses as well as other topics surrounding this disease.  Opportunities for education to help families understand the disease process are an important part of the group.  Families and staff support each other through discussions and sharing.  Skills are shared on how to interact with relatives suffering from dementia.

We are honored you have chosen to consider our home for your loved one.
